Controversial design

my view
interesting - bridges gap between politics & design bringing to light gun culture & helping being the conversation to the front

real intensions weren't a working squeezer but to start conversations - is an interesting centrepiece rather than a functioning tool
"It's not meant to squeeze lemons, it is meant to start conversations"
my view
amuses me as its non functional for what you would think its purpose would be, but following Starck's intended purpose of starting conversations it succeeds it function very well. Its a very aesthetically appealing design as well so it is a shame it doesn't work
Dematerialisation
-
Louis Ghost chair
-
deigned this transparent chair as due to his belief in dematerialisation in the future there won't be chairs but for now he designs one that look like they aren't there so we get used to the idea
my view
like the combo of modern material with the old inspiration of the shape. like ability to blend into the background of a space, good for making small paces look less cramped
-
stacking broom chair - made with discarded material from lumber factories & industrial plastic plants
-
Why use so much plastic?
to make things more & more affordable. I want to reach the maximum I can, for everybody. Only mass-produced plastic objects can do this.’
has promoted the use of plastic as an accessible & innovative material. Is aware that with design we cannot solve every problem, but believes that we can make small steps so that design is not completely useless. His aim is to make less – less design, less material, less energy … to end up with more.
democratic design
secret to continued success - his philosophy of democratic design - design that provides quality pieces at accessible prices
French designer known for wide range of designs - architecture & interior products to household products
he challenges perceptions & aims to enhance the experience of the user through playful & thought provoking design
"I am just a copier, am imposter. I wait, I read magazines. After a while my brain sends me a product... I am my brain's publisher"
used artificial technology to create a strong stable chair described it as "a lot like having a conversation"
