        Strengths
        
        The trials focused global attention on human rights violations
        
        It showed that leaders are not above the law and can be held responsibility for their actions. The former Rwandan pm was given a life sentence on genocide charges.
        
        Weaknesses
  - - - Each judge serves a 9 year term
      - The make up of the court is representative of the regions of the globe but does include a judge from the P-5 states
    - - The ICJ only has jurisdiction over states. It cannot prosecute not state actors like terrorists groups
      - The distribution of judges in in favour of the west
      - It is not legally binding and it has no enforcement powers
