Expiration
Intercostal muscles and diaphragm relax, volume decreased and pressure increased to push air out

Intercostal muscles contract, diaphragm flattens, volume increased and pressure decreased to suck air in
Structure (misc.)
-
Each lung divides into 3 lobes: cranial, middle, caudal. Right lung has an additional accessory lobe
Gaseous exchange
Oxygen transported to alveoli. Capillaries surrounding alveoli come from pulmonary artery (deoxygenated), and drain into pulmonary vein (oxygenated). Oxygen diffuses into capillaries around alveoli. Oxygenated blood is transported to the left side of the heart to be pumped around the body.
