hikikomori are people who avoid/withdraw from all social contact & don't leave their houses for years at a time
- reportedly people become hikikomori because of the large pressure they are facing in the education/work place
- in 2020, Japan faced an decrease of 25, 917 births from the previous year [2019 = 898600 births, 2020 = 872683 births]
- in 2019, the Japanese birth rates dropped below 900,000 for the first time
- in 2020, the Japanese population decreased by 420,000 people
