decisions may need to be esscalated to line managers who might have greater authority
e.g. whether to give customers financial recompense
authorisation
responsibility for certain tasks might need to be escalated to a manager
e.g. agreeing on a lease for new premesis
reasons for authority procols
allows delegation of tasks to subordinates whilst still overseeing the outcome (checking procedures)
e.g. managers can act as a double-check to ensure accuracy
lowers the risk of fraud if more than one person is involved in certain tasks e.g. preperation and authorisation of payments

examples
ensuring only those that need access to specific interest do have it
using the BCC line in emails to that email addresses are not shared
requiring employees to sign NDA's (non-disclosure agreements) so that if they have access to certain information, they will not discuss it with anyone who has not signed the agreement
businesses can include in the job description that disclosing confidential information will be deemed gross misconduct
storage of data and documentation
manual - secure filing cabinets and ensuring that confidential documents are not removed from premesis
electronic - password protection of computors and network passwords so that only the people with the passwords have access to information
