SANITARY AND SOIL WASTE SYSTEM - Coggle Diagram
SANITARY AND SOIL WASTE SYSTEM
Self-Siphonage
water fills the waste pipe
creates a vacuum to draw out the seal
waste pipe that is too long, too steep and too small in diameter
Induced Siphonage
most commonly a shared waste pipe that is undersized
discharge into inadequetely sized stacks
the discharge from one appliance draws out the seal in the trap
Back Pressure
compression occurs due to resistance to flow at the base of a stack
positive pressure displaces water in the lowest trap.
to small radius bottom bend, the lowest branch fitting too close to the base of the stack.
Capillary Action
a piece of rag, string or hair caught on the trap outlet.
Wavering out
Gust of wind blowing over the top of the stack
can cause a partial vacuum to disturb water seals.
Momentum
caused by a sudden discharge of water into a fitting
the force of the water may be sufficient to unseal the trap.
Evaporation
when the trap is not in use, the rate of evaporation of the water will depend upon the relative humidity of the air in the room.
Leakage
due to a faulty joint on the claening eye
a crack in the trap due to expansion and contraction of the material.
