INTRODUCTION OF TOURISM, PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
CATEGORIES OF COUNTRY
It is separated into four distinct categories:
- Developed countries
- Economies in transition
- Developing countries
- Least developed countries
Economies in transitions:
- Have a centrally planned economy
- Found mostly around Russia
Developing countries
- It is numerous
- Located in regions of the Asia Pacific, South America, Africa, and the Middle East. Including Latin America and the Caribbean (except Haiti)
Developed countries:
- Majority are Western nations, United States, Canada, Western and Northern Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
- The only two exceptions to this categories are Japan and Israel.
Least Developed Countries
- Mostly in Africa
- Exceptions are in the Asia Pacific, the Middle East and in Haiti
Underdevelopment
- Income per capita/person
- Human assets
- Economic Vulnerability

DEFINITION
Tourism is a social, cultural and economic phenomenon.

PLANNING
Organizing the future to achieve certain objectives. Possess strong element of predictability to envision the future.
DEVELOPMENT
Is a process or a state (refers to relative condition of the object of interest). It requires the acceptance unit of measurements.
GOALS

Goal in tourism planning refers to integration of all tourism development into the social, environment and economic life of a community.

United Nations developed Millennium Developed Goals that aim to eradicate extreme poverty and world hunger, achieve universal primary education, ensure environmental sustainability, and develop a global partnership.
2030 Agenda for sustainable development has 17 goals in nine frameworks. Tourism appears in the targets of Goals 8, 12 and 14.
