when Frenchie and his brother were trying to escape, his brother sacrifice his life and Frenchie didn't have any choice, he just had to leave his brother and run away.
Frenchie didn't also have any choice, he had to stay with them, so he would stay alive + they were heading north as same as him

explanation: the others are letting him grieve, respecting his loss, knowing that soon he would forget ahead.
to me: I really loved this qoute because it's telling you no matter what, you would still mange to live your life, "life goes on so let's live on" (RM speech) I find this qoute similer to this text too.
