Week 13
Boys & Girls are Different
Equality means that people should have equal opportunities; it doesn't mean that everybody is the same, or that we even want everybody to be the same. It would be devastating to our culture.
Difference is good!
It starts in the womb. We are just biologically hardwired to be different.
Right after the sperm meets the egg, things start to happen that just make us into different kinds of people
These differences are most likely due to sex hormones we’re exposed to in the womb.
That's Not My Job
how we can work together as mothers and fathers.
this happens when parents don’t feel equally responsible for childcare, when they fall into that pattern of mom is the boss, dad is the assistant.
If women ease up, your husbands will take on more of the endless list, and that’s his main advice to the husbands. Take that list and divide it up and take some of the mommy times.
it’s often during quiet times when boring things are being done that kids open up.
We need to be able to make a connection with our kids.
Social Cognitive Theories
Learning theory
Actions are contingent on consequences- behavior that is reinforced will be repeated
Children learn by the consequences of their actions and by observing the consequences of the actions of significant others.
Information Processing theory
Refers to the way an individual attends to, perceives, interprets, remembers, and acts on events on situations
Sociocultural theories
Peers
Aggression can be a result of peer group pressure
Community

Gangs, urban rioters, mobs
Gospel Connections
The Sacred Responsibilities of Parenthood
Full and Equal Partnerships
Men and women joined together in marriage need to work together as a full partnership.
a full and equal partnership between men and women does not imply the roles played by the two sexes are the same in God’s grand design for His children
Proclamation of the Family
Men and women, though spiritually equal, are entrusted with different but equally significant roles
These roles complement each other.
Men are given stewardship over the sacred ordinances of the priesthood.
Women, God gives stewardship over bestowing and nurturing mortal life, including providing physical bodies for God’s spirit children and guiding those children toward a knowledge of gospel truths.
Principles for Marriage and Families
Successful marriages and families are established and maintained on principles of faith, prayer, repentance, forgiveness, respect, love, compassion, work, and wholesome recreational activities”
Parents need to set limits in accordance with the importance of the matter involved and the child’s disposition and maturity.
I Will Not Remove Mine Integrity From Me
Do we do what we are supposed to when no one is looking?
Are we achieving integrity through our own doing?
Ecological theories
The complex variables operating in aggressive behavior involve
Child (personality, cognitive level, social skill)
Family (parenting, interaction)
School (attitudes on handing aggressive behavior)
Peer group (modeling, norms, acceptance/rejection)
Media (modeling)
Community (socioeconomic stressors, attitudes about what constitutes aggressive behavior, availability of support systems)
The Good Samaritan
But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion on him.
A Man for All Seasons
But since we see that avarice, anger, pride, and stupidity commonly profit far beyond charity, modesty, justice, and thought perhaps we must stand fast a little, even at the risk of being heroes
