CLIMATE CHANGE
CAUSES
deforestation
Trees help stop climate change by removing carbon dioxide from the air, therefore, when trees are cut down, the stored carbon is released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide.
burning fossil fuels
burning fossil fuels produces carbon dioxide (a greenhouse gas). Greenhouse gases have a greenhouse effect which makes the earth warmer.
-
large corporations
Many big companies have a large effect on climate change because of a lack of environmental policies. For example, many companies are responsible for industrial emissions.
ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS
melting ice caps
as temperatures rise, both poles are starting to get warmer which leads to ice caps melting. as the ocean warms up, it begins to melt the ice which can lead to loss of habitats and rising sea levels.
rising sea levels
when climate change occurs, sea levels will rise which lead to higher chances of flooding and more storms. This can further lead to increase risk of drowning, injury, damages to houses and business, and more.
increasing temperatures
As more greenhouse gases are in the air, those gases are trapped heat in the Earth's atmosphere which causes the average temperature to rise all over the world.
loss of habitats
as ice caps melt, animals such as polar bears are losing their habitats and things they need to depend on for survival.
SOLUTIONS
public transportation
If more people take public transportation, carpool, or bike/walk to nearby destinations, it would reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
renewable energy sources
By using renewable energy sources such as wind turbines, solar power, and more, we can reduce the greenhouse effect because these sources do not emit carbon dioxide/other greenhouse gases.
-
eating moe plant-based
This does not mean completely cutting meat out of your diet but considering vegetables and other plant friendly meals instead of consuming meat twice a day everyday.

EVIDENCE
sea levels rising
Global sea levels rose about 8 inches in the last century. "The rate in the last two decades, however, is nearly double that of the last century and accelerating slightly every year"
extreme weather events
The US has recorded record high and low temperatures as well as extreme rainfall and other weather events.
-
warming oceans
The ocean has been absorbing most of the heat which leads to the top 100 meters of the ocean warming .6 degrees F since 1969.
-
economic impacts
impact human health
with more floods and extreme weather conditions, diseases and sickness will be more common which will impact healthcare economically.
-
property damages
extreme weather can damage houses and businesses which will lead to economic relief that might be available to everyone
