Idea generation for games
Gameplay Mechanics
The basics, run, jump, left, right, attack.
An idea would be that for example in fable your character can change from good side to bad side. this could give the mechanics of being able to change the colour of the character mid game and this could mean that the good light character can only have access to the dark side so he can be able to kill in the dark side, whereas on the other hand you could play as the dark character but only have access to the light side meaning you can only kill in that area until you change.
Movement mechanics
For a side scrolling platform game, the game obviously consists of the character going from left to right and jumping in order to get to the end of the level.
For a game similar to rogue where it is a subgenre of role playing video games. for a game like rogue it is sort of showed as the game looking down and almost like a birds eye view so you can see everything from going on as the person playing the game this is a lot different to side scrolling platform games as this game doesn't go from left to right but instead you can see the whole area.
In some games you need to be able to attack so there will be a given key on the keyboard where it gives you the attack option for example the letter 'A' could mean attack which would control your character to hit another character or use a sword to kill them etc.

Top down perspective
after experiencing playing top down perspective games you can see that both, top down and side scrolling are simple games and easier to make than an advanced game, also where it is 2D the graphics are very basic and obviously pixelated.
Side scrolling platform
A lot of side scrolling games are usually to do with vehicles including cars and bikes. i think side scrolling games are mainly vehicle based because you scroll from left to right and right to left so if your in a car your aim of the game is to get from one side to
another without hitting any of the obstacles between point A where you start and point B where you finish.
Also with side scrolling games the background is fixed and doesn't change this could show that you are on the same level and you could have it in different games that the each different level you progress through the background changes. The only object that tends to change on the levels of side scrolling platform games are the surface you are on or the different objects/obstacles you come across.
