TYPES OF BURNS

ELECTRICAL
Different types
TYPE 2 (Flash)
- Electrical-Thermal Burn
- Caused by arcing of electrical current
- Ranges from 3000-20000 degrees in lightning
TYPE 3 (Flame)
- Thermal Burn
- Electric ignites a person's clothing or surroundings
TYPE 1 (Contact)
- Electrical Burn
- Most Common
- Most intense at Exit and Entrance Sites
-Not very serious

HOW TO CLASSIFY
Second Degree (Partial-Thickness)
- Epidermis and Dermis
- Blister/Moisture may be present
-EXTREME PAIN
First Degree (Superficial)
- Epidermis Only
- Skin is red
- LITTLE TO MODERATE PAIN
Third Degree (Full-Thickness)
- Destruction of layers of skin
- Skin is white and play, brown and leathery
- No capillary refill, NO MORE PAIN

MANAGEMENT
Chemical Burns
Things to take note of:
- wear gloves and goggles
- flush burn area with water
- Remove contaminated clothings
- NEVER try to neutralise
Electrical Burns
Things to take note of:
- Ensure to do RSE first
- Assess entrance and exit wounds
- Monitor LOC and ABC
Burn Injuries in General
- Remove patient from the heat source
- Flush the burned area with water
- After cooling is done, dry the wound and cover with burn dressing (Surgical PU film Dressing)
- Rapid transport

-Asphyxia and Cardiac Arrest are the two common causes of death
Things to take note(Chemical):
- How much the skin is destroyed is based on two things(Duration and Concentration)
- How much is the chemical deadly (Toxicity) to you is based on how much it gets absorb.
