Unpacking the Brief
What to cover in your research process
Make sure you gain access to a range of history and theory sources relevant to your research. Reference your sources of information in your EVD.
Design a first draft and record in your EVD. Use screenshots to evidence.
Think about the technology of the time and its impact on design and record your findings. Document these finding in your EVD and presentation script.
Interact and discuss your research findings with teacher and peers and identify any relationship between the history and theory of visual communication, record any viewpoints and feedback (at least twice) you may receive in your EVD.
Evaluate the designer’s work using critical analysis tools and record in your EVD and presentation script.
Articulate your ideas about their work and record in your EVD and presentation script. In your EVD explain what are the characteristics of a substantiated opinion and how would you develop one.
Challenge and adapt research findings to suit your objective and record
e.g. has your opinion on the designer changed due to research findings or peer feedback and how has this impacted upon your opinions and presentation.
Identify current trends and practices and record how your subject’s work could be affected or is impacted in your EVD and/or presentation script.
Select Focus for Research
Select an appropriate Designer to research, create a list of no less than (3) potential research subjects and document your opinion on each in your (EVD). Provide a reason for your final selection.
Using your electronic visual diary (EVD) document your research and record information relating to your final chosen research subject. Students must access at least three (3) sources of information.
Create a bibliography to reference your sources
Mandatory Inclusions within the final PDF presentation
A (5) minute Acrobat (preferred) or PowerPoint (non preferred) presentation must be prepared and presented in class by each student. Your presentation should explain the characteristics of the period i.e. typographic styles, design elements, colour palettes favoured during the period. An accompanying script must be printed and handed to the teacher prior to presenting. A minimum of a (8-10) page presentation is required. Must include but not limited to.
