- - - - the 267 Congo people that were brought to Belgium were being treated as animals; Leopold put up a "The Blacks are fed by the organizing committee" sign which basically meant that "Don't feed the animals." Morale was also really surprised to find out what had happened with the "fair trade" of Belgium's colonialism. He discovered that a "stunning fraud" was occurring where the Belgians received loads of ivory and rubber whereas they barely sent anything back with the exception of weapons and military goods (for the Force Publique and for the orphan children).
        
        Ilanga's story: many horrific things happened and the fact that these people even had to go through these events (murder of baby, killing her husband, starvation, thirst and so much more that we can't keep track of) while they were taken in canoes is really sad and messed up. As journals/novels/newspapers about the mistreatment of the Congolese started being published, that's when Leopold lied and acted shocked. He used newspapers to plant shocking stories of abuse by other colonial countries.

        After Lumumba was elected, army rebel groups and secessionists from Congo's mineral rich provinces create chaos in the country. Belgium sent in troops but that too could be prove that they were actually helping to create more chaos.
        
        Lumumba asked the United Nations for help and they didn't. So he asked for the Soviet Union's help. This created a problem for the western Nation so they wanted to get rid of him.
