Metamorphic
Began as igneous/sedimentary rock, form into a new rock when they come into contact with each other and heat
Marble is a metamorphic rock.it is formed when limestone is placed under great heat and pressure. White marble can be found on rathlin island, green marble in Connemara, red marble in cork and black marble in Kilkenny.
Quatrzite
quartrzite is formed when sandstone comes under great heat and pressure.its grey to white in colour and extremely hard in texture.it can be found in such as sugarloaf in county Wicklow and croagh Patrick in county mayo.
Igneous rocks
Granite
formed in the mantle below the crust. Granite is an intrusive rock as it cooled very slowly over millions of years.
it can be found in the Dublin/Wicklow and Mourne mountains.
Basalt
Is an extrusive rock, it cools very quickly when lava reaches the surface

formed when the remains of dead sea creatures shells and fish bones pole up on the bed of the sea
Limestone is a permeable rock meaning water can pass through it Found in the Burren Co. Clare
