Because I agree with all of these risks I am confident I can be successful with my own business of any type.
Vision Statement
I want to create a business to work on my own schedule but also work with things that I love and educate my community about animal care.
Education
Many pet stores fail to inform customers about the maintenance of many small animals just to make a sale, I want to inform all customers about the best care for their pets to ensure a happy long life.
Personal schedule
I want care free flexibility to manage my family as my first priority and keep stress down that revolves around a messy work schedule.
-
Eco-friendly
It's also important to me that my business has sustainable and no packaging options for customers to come refill their pet food without the extra plastic or paper waste.

Elevator Pitch
-
Description: Critter Corner pet shop is unlike any other pet store because we specialize in rehoming and adopting out small animals, instead of selling them. We also make it a judgement free zone for any person or family that wants to surrender their furry friend.
People behind the business: Pet loving staff and the owner, me, who has rescued several small animals and finds a passion in rehoming exotics and small animals.
Benefits of investing in business: The business itself is something that I love and will love to go to for work every day and being my own boss will benefit me in being able to raise my family on a flexible schedule.
call to action: The passion I have for small animals drives this business but also the fact there is no other business like it in my state or local area, despite most families having some type of small animal.
The You Factor I have interest in many things at a time but the one interest I've always had since I was very little is love for animals. My business will be benefitted by me being in charge because of my genuine love for animals. I am also highly motivated by money which will drive the business to be successful and have high profits.

Talking About Your Idea
Customer problem: Difficult and time consuming to adopt a small animal, much harder than adopting a dog or cat.
Having a physical store front that brings rescued animals to the community for adoption and rehoming.
There is no other local pet store that ethically rehomes animals, only animals available for purchase. Also has environmental concern by having refillable foods and treats and low waste products.
Competitive advantage: Having a locally owned brick and mortar option for the community to rehome and adopt small and exotic animals in a safe and ethical way, as well as refill foods with no plastic waste.
All pet owners are the target audience as the store will have something for every kind of animal large or small.
Customers will choose my store for the convenience and great personalized experience they receive, and the environmentally friendly concerns that no other store has.
Got a good idea?
Key considerations
How much does it cost to start up and will it repay startup costs quickly or slowly? I expect it to cost $400,000 to start up with it being paid back within 2 to 5 years.
What is the estimated growth annually expected? I expect to keep it at one small business but could start a second location or franchises later.
What type of business will it be? Brick and mortar or online? We will primarily have a brick and mortar store front but also sell some products online regionally.
Has someone else done it before? Why is my idea better? There are a lot of pet stores but none that have a main purpose of rehoming small animals and focusing on environmental concerns.

-
Social interaction
I'd love to greet as many customers as I can and get to know everyone in the community. This also ensures people feel a personal interaction with the company and want to stay loyal.
-
Expertise, skills, and preferences
I'm familiar with retail and being professional and kind to even the rudest of customers, as well as being accountable. I also love love love animals and I know I will be happy working with them no matter what.
Job security
Pet stores tend to do better than other small businesses such as restaurants or salons so this is slightly less risky than other options. There is also no other store like this so I think it will be popular for a long time with the right marketing.
-
Growth business
Eventually it would be great to need two or more stores in the area or franchise out locations in other states to spread awareness of adoption of small animals.
Future personal income
I'm not in this business for the money but I would like to afford to help my husband start his own farm, pay for our future children's colleges, and have a vacation home in South Carolina, in a perfect world. To do all of these things, ideally the business will make over a million dollars a year.
Investment
I would like to get a cash cushion before starting the business by investing in real estate and being a personal real estate broker in order to save up and lessen the risk of this investment.

Assessing Idea
-
Will this business idea line up with my personal vision of income?
Yes, as I want to make $50,000 a year minimum this business can do that and more.
Will this business idea satisfy my personal desire to work with animals?
Yes, I know I will be happy and motivated working around animals all day.
Will this business satisfy my personal vision of being a part of the community and bettering it for the future?
Yes, especially having eco friendly and sustainable options for customers to purchase pet food and supplies. This can be an impactful store for the environment in my region.
Will this business idea help me with my personal vision of making my own schedule?
Absolutely, especially if I have a side job consisting of passive income from real estate investments this career will be enjoyable and let me raise a family as my first priority.
Do I have the skills to complete this? Yes because I enjoy animals so much I am able to learn about them easily and I already know a lot. I also have experience from college and watching my dad operate his own business I know I can pull this off.
The risks associated with this business are worth the benefits I can receive from the business. This is because I can safely start the business with cash and avoid life crippling debt if anything does go wrong, but I also am confident I can turn around any inconveniences into workable options to better the business.
