Total Wars
Definition
Total war is mainly characterized by the lack of distinction between fighting lawful combatants and civilians. The purpose is to destroy the other contender’s resources so that they are unable to continue to wage war.

Mobilized almost all European nations and its colonies into total war with enormous costs, not only to military personnel lost in battle, but to whole societies, dramatically affecting finance, culture, and industry.
French Revolution
During the French Revolution, the Revolutionary Tribunal engaged in acts of total war, nicknamed “The Terror.” During this period, the Tribunal executed anyone who did not show fervent and undying support of the Revolution

Targeting major infraestructure
Blocking access to water
Blocking Imports
There is no limit on the type of weapons used

Or every other mass destruction weapon could be unleashed

Main objective to ensure victory, no matter what happens or what weapons are being used
Government control of the media in order to to ensure that the population sees the enemy as one that must be defeated at all costs.

The geographic location does not matter
WW1 and WW2 had taken place in pretty much every country in europe
The French revolution in the other hand, took place in France
How are they fought?
As mentioned before
Creating a large fighting force through the use of conscription.
Using all weapons available and developing new ones in order to ensure victory.
Using civilians in the war effort, e.g. in industry and home defence.
Wars between states (Limited Wars)
Definition
The Limited War takes place in 1 assigned confined area, Its concept its designed to prevent total wars or it may be a conflict between small group of countries

Korean War
Vietnam War
Where are they fought?
Usually on a single assignated geographical location in order to not cause mayor damages and cause a total war
How are they fought?

-Limited weaponry
-Limited movilization
To prevent real danger of the damage of a total war
Civil Wars
Definition
Is a war between organized groups within the same state or country. The aim of one side may be to take control of the country or a region, to achieve independence for a region or to change government policies
Examples
The American Civil War
The political outcome of the Civil War was an end to slavery and the maintenance of a single superpower in North America. It was also important because of the way it was fought. Instead of outmaneuvering each other, industrialized nations would grind away at each other’s economic bases, removing their ability to fight.
The Engllish Civil War
Rather than a battle between opposing would-be monarchs, like those that had preceded it, it was a war over political and religious principles.. The parliamentary victory was followed by an unsustainable republic and the creation of a constitutional monarchy. It shaped the English constitution and through it the laws of the United States.
A civil war can be caused because
Political divisions
Different religious ideas in a country.
People in certain regions of a country feel oppressed or neglected
Where are they fought?
Usually they're fought in a solid country, in which different sides start a war
How are they fought?
The combatants aim to take control of the political and legal institutions of the state, although the violence is longer lasting than a coup d’état
A civil war may have characteristics of total war and, in practice, few civil wars end in compromise, but rather are fought until one side or the other is victorious or gains its aim
. Usually, civil war combatants can be identified as either incumbents or insurgents
Guerrilla Warfare
Definition
The Guerrilla warfare is considered an unconventional warfare due to the use of unconventional and unproffesional tactics performed by informal groups

Algeria War
Where are they fought
Ussually they're fought in a country where a small group of people fight against a goverment
How are they fought
