1931, Klerksdorp: Desmond Tutu was born
1946, King William's Town: Stephen Biko was born.
1968: Biko founded the Organization of South African Students (SASO) only with young black people
The Black Consciousness:
Fight against all those who use the black skin color for second-rate man
1976: Biko became President "ad honorem" of the Convention of the Black People.
1977: He was captured and transferred into the prison
1984: Tutu won the Nobel Peace Prize
1994: The first multiracial elections; Nelson Mandela was elected als the first black president.
The Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Mandela and Tutu woked together for:
-equal civil rights for all people.
-a common system for education
-the cessation of forced deportation
Desmond Tutu is still alive and he is now 89 years old. He continues to travel a lot to fight for uman rights.
1918,Mvezo: Nelson Mandela was born.
Vice-president of the political party " the African Natioonal Congress": a policy of peaceful resistance to apartheid.
The ideal of a democratic and free society with harmony and equal opportunities.
But in 1964 he was sentenced to life in prison.
1967: sanctions on South Africa
from the international community
1976: the Soweto Children's Uprising:
white police killed 20 black school children
during a peaceful demonstration.
1990: Frederik Willem de Klerk, the white President of South Africa, freed Mandela after 27 years in prison.
Discussion about a new multi-racial democracy.
1993: Mandela and de Klerk won the Nobel Peace Price.
1994:all races voted in democratic elections Mandela for president.
Robben Island, the prison of Mandela, is now a World Heritage Site, an international symbol of the fight for human rights.
2002: a memorial and museum in Soweto for the anniversary of the Soweto Children's uprising (16th June: National Youth Day)
