collecting information from sensory receptors and carry them to CNS

Sympathetic division
"fight or flight" - response to anger, emotions, danger, embarassment
Parasympathetic divison
"rest and digest" - response when the body is relaxed, restinf, or feeding
Enteric nervous system - "brian of the gut"/"second brain"
responsible for regulating digestion and the function of the digestive organs
Somatic nervous system (SNS)
voluntary efferent neurons - stimulating skeletal muscle

Neuroglia - "glial cells"
act as the "helpers", each neuron surrounded by 6 to 60 neuroglia that protect, feed, and insulate the neurons

integrates reflexes to stimuli

coordinate muscle movement - writing, maintain posture and balance

automatic functions - breathing, sneezinng, body temperature, swallowing, coughing, vomiting

sensory analysis - information coming to the brain form the ears, sleep, maintaing level of consciousness
Medulla oblongata
body functions - heart rate and breathing
Midbrain
body movement, hearing, vision, eye movement
