Problems in listening

Reasons for listening:

Simple listening plan

can't pick the important parts to understand

can't tell where words start and stop

bad/not understandable pronounce

people speak too dfast to follow

can't work out details of what is being said

don't know whar attitudes ppl are expressing

can't get the general sense of the message

catch specific details (names, numbers,...)

get a general overview of the main story/message of a conversation

The activity must really demand listening.

It mustn't be simply a memory test.

Tasks should be realistic or useful in some way.

The activity must actively help them to improve their listening.

It shouldn't be threatening.

It should help students work around difficulties to achieve specific results.

  1. Play recording.
  1. Check if the students have found the answers.
  1. Set questions.
  1. If not, play the recording again as often as neccessary.

remember not to overburden students

wonder how useful, relevant or interesting the topic for your Ss

decide what kind of listening xou want to do (general overviw/details)
