        Side effects - stomach ache, diarrhoea

        Gliptins
        
        stimulate insulin secretion from pancreas
        
        inhibit hepatic sugar production, by affecting gastrointestinal hormone increments
        
        only lowers blood glucose when elevated, low risk of hypoglycaemia, can be used with metformin
        
        Side effects - nausea, headache
        
        Sulfonylureas
        
        Stimulate insulin from pancreas
        
        lower blood glucose during exercise, or when meal interval is prolonged - should be taken with food, can be used together with metformin
        
        Side effect - hypoglycaemia and weight gain
        
        Glinidis
        
        Stimulate insulin secretion from pancreas
        
        fast acting, increasing insulin production (meal tablets)
      - Kidneys
        
        Sodium glucose co transporter 2 SGLT - helps stop glucose uptake into the kidneys. Kidney helps remove glucose from the blood.
    - - incretin mimetics, increase pancreatic secretion when blood glucose is elevated
