World War II
The Treaty of Versailles
Disarmament
Germany was only allowed to have a small army and six naval ships. No air force, no tanks, and no submarines.
-
Reparations
Germany had to pay £6,600 million for the damage caused by the war
-
People in Germany were very unhappy with the treaty. They were dissatisfied with the government, so they voted for a man who promised to rip up the Treaty of Versailles; Adolf Hitler.

Hitler's actions: Increased the size of Germany's army, introduced compulsory military service, build warships, and create a German air force.
France and Britain were aware of this, but they though that a stronger Germany would prevent the spread of communism in the West.
In 1936, Hitler sent troops to Rhineland. Even if they weren't very strong, neither Britain nor France did something to stop him, they didn't wanted to start another war.

It began in September 1939, when Britain and France declared war on Germany, following Germany's invasion of Poland.
