Wood
Preparation of woods
There are three commonly used methods to prepare the surface of the wood as a final step before finishing: widebelt sanding, random orbit sanding and brush sanding.
Properties of woods
Properties of wood include: colour, luster, texture, macro-structure, odour, moisture, shrinkage, internal stresses, swelling, cracking, warping, density, sound - electro - thermal conductivity.
Metals
Preparation of metals
Specifically, the process of the preparation method comprises; the grafting of active metal precursor ontoscaffold material via simple chemical reaction, and the carbonisation mixed with carbo-thermal reduction of organic-inorganic hybrid material.
Properties of metals
Metals are lustrous, malleable, ductile, good conductors of heat and electricity.
Plastics
Preparation of plastics
Plastics are made from raw materials like natural gas, oil or plants, which are refined into ethane and propane. Ethane and propane are then treated with heat in a process called “cracking” which turns them into ethylene and propylene. These materials are combined together to create different polymers.
Properties of plastics
Plastics can be classified by the chemical process used in their synthesis, such as condensation, polyaddition, and cross-linking.
They can also be classified by their physical properties, including hardness, density, tensile strength, thermal resistance, and glass transition temperature.
