Advanced
Ferret
Carnivorous diets, minimum of 4-6 hours play time a day, frequent cleaning, a lot of safe space to play. Live 8-10 years
Parott
Entertainment and enrichment, advanced diet, specialized cleaning. Live 40-60 years.
Snakes
Terrarium, heater, live insects, sometimes live mice.
Advanced cleaning. Live 15-30 years
Sugar Gliders
Expensive housing, specific diet, more regular cleaning, needs hours of play time. Live 10-12 years.
Beginner
Fish
Freshwater, can be kept in small tank, needs bubbler,
good filter will keep tank clean longer
Gerbil
Can be tamed easily, rarely drink water, clean, large terrarium for digging, easily purchased food. Can be alone or in groups.
Moss Ball
Keep water clean, mainly decoration but is still alive
Hermit Crabs
Terrarium, heater, easily purchased diet, low maintenance cleaning
Intermediate
Guinea Pigs
Need very large space, inexpensive diet. Need 24/7 access to hay, require vegetables daily. Cleaned every other day, drink a large amount of water. Monitor for health problems regularly. Do best in pairs or 3+ . Live 6-8 years.
Rabbits
Similar to guinea pigs, can easily get health problems need to monitor closely for behavioral changes. Diet consists of vegetables and store bought food pellets.
Hamsters
Slightly more care than gerbils, need water often. Terrarium (20gal or more), will keep to self. Harder to tame but possible. Food easily purchased, infrequent cleaning. Solitary; only one at a time. Live 2-3 Years.
Rats
Lower maintenance like hamsters. Require a protein packed diet but can eat dog food kibbles. Will eat table scraps as well. Smellier and less clean than other rodents but highly intelligent. Can be potty-trained and tamed easily.
