Improved printing

Pros:
Reduced printers uses less energy and fewer ink cartridges (currently all different makes).
This will free up the printer/scanner to be available to connect to the network so we can scan documents and print to lab printer, not site printer (which is located in another building)
Who will do:
CTL to lease with IT for what is required and order equipment.
Chemists to install hardware and move equipment.
CTL to set up new LAN.
CTL and Chemists to lease with IT for set up to print/scan
Benefits:
This will reduce the cost of printer cartridges, reduce time spent walking to another building to print/scan documents
Equipment Maintenance

Pros: Having a schedule for maintenance would help reduce down time due to instrument failure. Chemist would have a better understanding of how equipment works. All chemists will be able to maintain instruments.
having to fix instruments might help chemists to treat equipment with more respect
Who will do: Senior Chemist to create a maintenance schedule and train chemists in maintenance of instruments. CTL to ensure chemists are trained

Who will do: CTL to lease with Engineering and external companies, obtaining quotes. Arrange a time for work to be carried out, ensure work is carried out to meet standards and under a permit. Require approval from laboratory and site manager
Cons: budget approval,organisation for work to be carried out - laboratory have to be shut down for work? Improvement of balance system
Maternity Cover
Currently one of the shift chemists has recently informed us that they are pregnant, after performing a Risk Assessment they are not able to perform the duties of a shift chemist, the role needs covering for the period of time that the chemist is out of the laboratory
Pros: Chemist is able to help with administrative tasks, COSHH assessments, Risk Assessments, EA reportinge.t.c
Who will do: CTL/LM to build case to present to BDM for a fixed term position for 2 years to cover maternity period, if approved CTL to contact HR and arrange for role to be advertised. Choose potentials for interview, interview, offer, training
Benefits: We have a 25% reduction in staff in the laboratory, we would struggle to achieve customer expectations in periods of absence (holiday and sickness), having maternity cover would allow us to meet our customer targets
