HDP
Instrument
Uses a query to find instruments that either match a partial text string (e.g., SOL) or match an instrument name or abbreviation exactly (while ignoring case - both SOLSTICE and solstice work)
SpectralRange
Choices are:

- Infrared
- LBHBand
- Optical
- Radio Frequency
- Ultraviolet
- XRays
These are a subset of the spase:SpectralRange controlled list
VSO
Instrument
For multi-instrument space observatories, an identifier of the particular instrument from which the data originate. For observatories, the Instrument may refer to a particular telescope or to one of multiple standard configurations of telescope plus detectors. For the list of instruments registered, consult the(http://vso.nascom.nasa.gov/cgi/show_details?keyword=INSTRUMENT)
SPASE
Observatory
The host (spacecraft, network, facility) for instruments making observations, or a family of closely related hosts.
A mix of ground and space based observatories (i.e., a place or thing that has instruments)
Instrument
A device that makes measurements used to characterize a physical phenomenon, or a family of like devices.

NAVO Directory
Instrument
There are roughly 100 of these and it should be noted that some are telescope names (i.e., that can have multiple instruments mounted on them).
