Blind to the truth
Sophocles appeals to the senses as after Oedipus is blind, he learns to heighten his other senses from “ears'', “touch”, “heart”. In line 1470, Oedipus recalls what other senses bring him happiness when he cannot see in “What can I ever see? What love, what call of the heart can touch my ears joy?”. By describing Oedipus as being blind to the truth, Sophocles uses irony as when he can see, he was blind to the truth but when he was blind, he could see the truth. Juxtaposition is employed as a dramatic effect so the audience can realise the tragedy when having sight as a tool.
