Graphic Designer in Portland, Oregon
Me @ Work
I definitely think this type of work reflects my personality. I would say I have a very fun and outgoing personality, I try to put that in all of my work. I like fun designs, I want people to feel good and happy when they look at my work.
I think that all of those play a part in this line of work. You have to be honest and not plagiarize or steal other peoples work. You have to be in this line of work for the right reasons.
I value a company who appreciates the fun in work. I understand the need to remain professional in a work setting but I also think it’s very important to feel casual and have fun in the place of work, otherwise you may not enjoy the job as much.
I would say I have good work ethic, I feel like I strive for perfection in most if not all of my graphic design work. I don’t stop working on something until I think it holds up to a high standard. I can easily motivate myself and stay on track of finishing my work, I don’t procrastinate.

Fiscal Responsibilities/ Needs
I don’t think my short-term expenses are contributing to my long-term financial goals at all. I consider those expenses like interests or hobbies, Netflix, or gym memberships. I wouldn’t consider these to benefit my expenses.
I currently live on my own with a one-bedroom apartment, I think the only thing that would change in my budget is an increase in rent or car/ renters insurance. If I were to get this position in Portland, Oregon I would be making enough money to account for these increased expenses.
This budget meets my necessary expenses like rent, groceries, and utilities. I did not take in account for the expenses of fun or leisure activities. It covers the expense of adobe programs, and Netflix, but I don’t have a whole lot of hobbies or interests that would require a monthly expense.
Long-Term Goals
My long-term financial goals include paying off my student loans. I feel that is a big expense that needs to be taken care of. Then I also want to build a life for myself in wherever my career takes me, so I’d like to someday own a car and own a nice house.
Management positions in the Graphic Design industry currently range from $20500 to $97500.
With my current position at Costco Wholesale in Perrysburg, Ohio, I am steadily contributing to a 401k, Costco also matches a percentage of what I put in. I plan to continue this contribution no matter where I go career-wise.
Life-Long Learner
Trends in the Graphic Design industry range from designs being super minimalistic and professional looking to designs that take on a more silly and fun personality. I think there are a lot of different styles emerging in the packaging design industry that are very different and unique.
I am specializing in print in my major of Visual Communication Technology at Bowling Green State University. I plan on continuing to practice print design and techniques especially in my chosen career. I would hope that print continues to stay alive and relevant in the coming years.
Even now, I always practice my skills when I’m out of school, I will continue to practice and update my skills as I grow as a designer. I will continue to watch fun and interesting tutorials on design techniques. I also follow a number of design associations like the American Advertising Federation.
I have just recently been thinking about continuing on my education to receive a Master of Education in Instructional Design and Technology. I think choosing this path of education would only benefit me and my skills and further my opportunities for potential careers.
