Types and Phases of Conflict
Are classified in
BILATERAL when both or all those involved in the conflict disagree
UNILATERAL when only one of the partners disagrees
A conflict is defined as the disagreement that occurs between two or more people, groups or organizations that pursue diametrically different objectives.
TYPES
POWER CONFLICT
arises when the person who holds the authority or position of power is perceived as ineffective or unable to exert it properly
ROLE CONFLICT
Not outlining functions may lead to confusion among colleagues.
Conflict of Objectives, Strategies and Procedures
People don’t know what is going to be done, how and which strategies are going to be used.
CULTURAL CONFLICT
It is caused by miscomprehension or lack of knowledge about other people’s customs, ways of life, idiosyncrasies and cultures.
INFORMATION CONFLICT
When someone hides information from, or misinform somebody else in order to trick him/her.
DISTRIBUTION CONFLICT
At first sight of injustice, preference, misuse or inequity, people might react immediatly
INTERPESONAL CONFLICT
Academically seen, it is the most irrational of conflicts, but also the most common according to statistics.
SCALATION
Intense and culminating moment of a conflict.
