Drugs for hypertension: - Coggle Diagram
Drugs for hypertension:
ACE INHIBITORS:
Works: Lowers BP, Slows kidney damage in people with diabetes. Doesn't lower Heart rate
ACE: 1st choice
EX: LinsinoPRIL
P= 'prils' ; Puff tongue, and adds K+
-
ARBs
" Sartan sisters " Admin w/o meals, renal function test, blocks vasoconstriction, salt substitution
-
Works: Blocks the effect of angiotensin II by binding of angiotensin II to angtiotensin II type I receptors
Calcium Blockers:
Works: Slow movements of Ca into cells of heart and blood vessels; relax blood vessels, Increase blood supply to heart, and decrease workload
-
Beta Blockers:
Works: Limits activity of epinephrine, decreases heart rate, and force contraction.
-
Alpha beta blockers
Works: Combine effects of alpha beta blockers, Relax blood vessels like alpha blockers, and they slow heart rate and decrease force of heart contraction.
Side effects: dizziness, muscle weakness, hypotension, diarrhea, hyperglycemia, impotence
Adverse: hypertension, chest pain, bradycardia, heart failure, and pulmonary edema
-
Alpha blockers
Opposes excitatory effects of Norepinephrine, causing blood vessels relaxation and vasodilation. Decrease in BP
Intended: artery relaxation and dilation are increased, blood flow increased, blood pressure is lowered
Side effects: Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, hypotension, runny nose, pain in arms and legs
Adverse effects: fainting, SOB, fast pounding or irregular heart rhythm
-
Vasodilators
Works: acts directly on smooth muscles or small arteries, arteries dilate
Decrease BP, Dilates vessels, decrease vascular resistance, more O2 out to body
EX: Nitroprusside, Nitroglycerin = NITRO = Decrease BP Isosobride = vasodilators
