        Estella grows up
        
        Pip goes to see Estella, she makes him feel terrible. She has grown so much and he so little. The lady whom I had never seen before, lifted up her eyes and looked archly at me, and then I saw that the eyes were Estella's eyes. "But she was so much changed, was so much more beautiful, so much more womanly, in all things winning admiration had made such wonderful advance, that I seemed to have made none. I fancied, as I looked at her, that I slipped hopelessly back into the coarse and common boy again. O the sense of distance and disparity that came upon me, and the inaccessibility that came about her!" (P.398)
        
        Chapter 29
        
        Estella is passing through London, and she meets up with Pip.
        "Her reverting to this tone as if our association were forced upon us and we were mere puppets, gave me pain; but everything in our intercourse did give me pain. Whatever her tone with me happened to be, I could put no trust in it, and build no hope on it; and yet I went on against trust and against hope. Why repeat it a thousand times? So it always was." (P.445)
        
        Chaper 33
        
        Pip goes to talk to Havisham with Estella at Satis house, Pip has a revelation about Estella's purpose in the world. "I saw in this, wretched though it made me, and bitter the sense of dependence and even of degradation that it awakened - I saw in this, that Estella was set to wreak Miss Havisham's revenge on men, and that she was not to be given to me until she had gratified it for a term. I saw in this, a reason for her being beforehand assigned to me. Sending her out to attract and torment and do mischief, Miss Havisham sent her with the malicious assurance that she was beyond the reach of all admirers, and that all who staked upon that cast were secured to lose. I saw in this, that I, too, was tormented by a perversion of ingenuity, even while the prize was reserved for me. I saw in this, the reason for my being staved off so long, and the reason for my late guardian's declining to commit himself to the formal knowledge of such a scheme. In a word, I saw in this, Miss Havisham as I had her then and there before my eyes, and always had had her before my eyes; and I saw in this, the distinct shadow of the darkened and unhealthy house in which her life was hidden from the sun."         Pip ashamed to be a working boy, and not up to Estella's gentlemanly standards. "I had never thought of being ashamed of my hands before; but I began to consider them a very indifferent pair. Her contempt for me was so strong, that it became infectious, and I caught it. She won the game, and I dealt. I misdealt, as was only natural, when I knew she was lying in wait for me to do wrong; and she denounced me for a stupid, clumsy labouring-boy." (P.100)

      - Pip meets Jaggers who informs Pip that he will take him to London to be a gentlemen. Pip has nothing against this, he wants to impress Estella. "'Lord forbidding is pious, but not to the purpose,' returned Mr Jaggers. 'The question is, Would you want anything? Do you want anything?' 'The answer is,' returned Joe, sternly, 'No.'" (P.232)
        
        Chapter 17
        
        Pip grows up at the forge, stops seeing Estella.
        
        Pip goes to London under the guard of Jaggers. Pip will be a gentlemen.
        
        Chapter 19
        
        Pip learns Estella was created to torture all of the males in the world. "'I (Herbert) don't say no to that, but I meant Estella. That girl's hard and haughty and capricious to the last degree, and has been brought up by Miss Havisham to wreak revenge on all the male sex.'" (P.298)
        
        Chapter 22
        
        Jaggers throws a dinner party for many people, Pip meets Molly and Drummle meets Jaggers. Molly's hands are clawed from when she tried to get rid of infant Estella. "He took his hand from hers, and turned that wrist up on the table. She brought her other hand from behind her, and held the two out side by side. The last wrist was much disfigured - deeply scarred and scarred across and across. When she held her hands out, she took her eyes from Mr. Jaggers, and turned them watchfully on every one of the rest of us in succession." (P.362)
        
        Chapter 26
        
        Pip goes to see Jaggers when he comes of age, to see find out his benefactor's name.
