Antibody classes
- igM is primary immune response. Is located in the surface of B cells. igM antigen receptor on B cell membrane.
- igA found mainly in mucus. Can be found in saliva, tears, milk, and other body secretions. Protects mucusal surfaces.
- igD Important in activation of B cells. Is found in surface of B cells also. Cell surface receptor of mature B cell.
- igG can cross placement barrier. Is found in blood plasma and also in 80% of circulating antibodies. Antigens receptor on B cell membrane.
- igE involved in allergies. Is also found in skin and tiscues lining gastrointestinal and respiratory traers. Binds to mast cells and basephils to trigger response of histamine that contributes inflation.
Complement fixation- Happens complement proteins attach to antigens or foreign substance such as bacteria and activates.
-
Neutralization- Some work as antitoxins, blocking the effect of poisons produced by certain bacteria.
Agglutination- uses antibodies form clots in blood, used for blood typing.
-
Antigens are foreign proteins, nucleic acids, large carbohydrates, some lapids, pollen grans microorganisms.
Self antigen: human cells have many surfaces of proteins. Our immune cells do not attack our own body.
Cellular response
-
Cytotoxics cells defend against infection in already infected, cancer, or transplanted cells.
