Steps of Preliminary Investigation
Step 1:Understand the Problem or Opportunity
– Even if the systems request involves relatively
minor changes or enhancements, you need to
understand how those modifications will affect
business operations and other information
systems.
Step 2:Define the Project Scope and Constraints
– Determining the project scope means to define
the boundaries, or extent, of the project -- being
as specific as possible.
Step 3:Perform fact-finding
• Analyze organizational charts
» You should obtain organization charts to understand how the
department functions and identify individuals you might want
to interview.
Step4:Analyse project usability,cost,benefit and schedule data
» Consider the following issues:
» 1. What and how to get the information?
What sources will you use?
Will you do interview?
Will you conduct a survey?
How much will it cost to gather and report the
information?
Step 5:Evaluate Feasiblity
Step 6:Present results and recommendations to management
