Victor Sandoval Lymph Immune Per.2
Major Function of Lymphatic and Immune systems
Protects body against foreign invaders
lymphatic system is part of the immune system
produces and releases lymphocytes
destroy foreign invaders
destroys bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi that enter the body
Anatomy of the lymphatic system
lymph vessels
ducts
nodes
other tissues
around 2 liters of fluid leak from the cardiovascular system is a network of vessels that collect these fluid
They also collect Lymph
Spleen
tonsils
thymus
mucous membranes
innate and adaptive immune defenses
innate immunity involves barriers that keep harmful materials from entering your body
these barriers form the first line of defense in the immune response
subsystem of the immune system that is composed of systemic cells
subsystem processes that eliminate pathogens or prevent hair growth
humoral/ cellular response
involves b cells
b cells recognize antigens or pathogens
pathogens and antigens that are found by b cells in the lymph or blood
"humor" is a medival term for body fluid
Antigen and antibodies
3 types of antigens
exogeneous ( foreign to the host immune system)
endogeneous(produced by intracellular bacteria and virus replicating inside a host cell)
autoantigens (produced by the host)
immunoglobulin
blood protein in response to and counteracting a specific antigen
attaches to a specific antigen and make it easier for the immune cells ti destroy the antigen
T lymphocytes attack antigens directly to help control the immune response
Cells involved in the immune system
categorized as lymphocytes (T- cells, B- cells and NK cells),neutrophils, and monocytes/macrophages
all white bloods cells
major proteins of the immune system are predominantly signaling proteins, anti bodies and complement proteins
T cell and B cell
Disorders associated with the immune system
Type 1 diabetes
Rheumatoid arthritis
Lspus
Asthma
DiGeorge Syndrome (a chromosomal disorder that results in poor development of several body systems)
Familial Mediterranean fever
Immunodeficiency with hyper-IgM
