Lymph Immune Brezic, Yasmine (P.3) - Coggle Diagram
Lymph Immune Brezic, Yasmine (P.3)
Major functions of the Immune systems
the body's defense against infectious pathogens
keeps pathogens out and attacks those that do enter the body
Anatomy of the lymphatic system
lymphatic vessels collect and carry away excess fluid from interstitial spaces and special vessels called lacteals transport fats to the circulatory system
the organs, cells, and biochemicals of the lymphatic system help defend against disease
comprised of a network of vessels that assist in the circulation of body fluids
consists of two semi-independent parts
lymphatic vessels
lymphoid tissues or organs
Innate(natural) immune defenses
"born with it"
includes species resistance, mechanical barriers, natural killer cells, inflammation
respond rapidly
Major functions of the Lymphatic systems
drain excess fluid from tissue
play an essential role in body defenses and resistance to diseases
Return clean fluids and leaked proteins back to the blood
Adaptive(acquired) immune defenses
carried out by lymphocytes that recognize a specific invader
"body learns" this during its lifetime
develop slowly
Antibodies
there are five major types of antibodies
IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, IgE
carried by body fluids, capable of binding specially to antigens
soluble protein secreted by plasma cells
Humoral response and cellular response
cellular response
Many signaling pathways cause a cellular response that involves a change in gene expression.
humoral response
The immune response involving the transformation of B cells into plasma cells that produce and secrete antibodies to a specific antigen. See Note at antibody.
Disorders associated with the Immune system
edema
diabetes
allergies
