The Industrial Revolution - And the rise of two new ideologies
Introduction: Create a brainstorm/mindmap as you listen to a presentation (Lecture style) for 13 minutes.
Background: Beginning in the 1750s, rapid economic and social change came to England later to to Europe and the US.
Before, many people were employed by manufacturers to make things by hand in their homes (or they simply worked on farms as landless laborers.) Known as Cottage industry.
More and more, machines were used to produce goods in factories, often using methods of mass productions.
There is a now bigger social relationship due to the supervision of a Boss
Waves of people migrated to industial centers, located in cities, (Large economic/social change.) The industrial Revolution brought rapid urbanization, or the movement of people to cities. Changes in farming. Soaring population growth, and an ever increasing demand for workers led masses of people to migrate from farms to cities.
An economic system is known as capitalism developed during this time.
Capitalism: An economic (And cultural) system where individuals are free to produce and sell products at a profit.
Mercantilism
Capitalists used laborer's working for small wages to do work in dangerous, unhealthy, factories and produce huge profits for business owners.
The capitalist is the owner of the factor, owner of the wealth, money man.
Working Conditions were harsh for people in the factories: Child labors, No health insurance, dangerous work, long hours and little or no work vacations.
Coal lung was common, child labor, accidents.
Labor unions, or organized groups of workers, were often not allowed, UNIONS.
Only people who owned property could vote (AT first), so common people held no real political power. Reformation bills and Social unions were formed across the Industrial revolution.
The Rise of capitalism and socialism in the 19th and 20th centuries. (22/3/2021)
Intro: Describe the connection between these 3 ideologies.
Communism is the complete antithesis of Capitalism.
Communism is born out of Socialism.
Communism is very similar to extremes socialism.
Discussion: Am I a capitalist, or a socialist?
The results of my answers has lead to me to be identified as a minor socialist as I've only agreed to 2 socialist points while only 1 capitalist points.
I only agreed with points 3/7/8 and disagreed with the rest. (These were done on the 22th of March 2021.)
