- - - - Eventhough there had been change in his work, Mark was able to reinvent himself by becoming an industrial designer on city road, and therefore creating new connections to maintain his current connections.
  - - - In light of the disconnection that this change has caused, Noff decided to open up an Arabic restaurant called the La Shish, therefore creating new connections, and maintaining connections to city road.
        
        In addition, this allows Noff to renew his connections to his Iraqi culture as well as his identity.
  - - - Although many of a previous generation seem hesitant to the idea, as they may have anxieties about the unknown
        
        Furthermore, anyone able to access the blog can see products sold in city road, and therefore the product creates a virtual link to the community.

        City Road in particular, attracts many from all over the world, whether it be students or migrants, it's always had a diverse characteristic.
        
        Characteristics are a big part of continuity, as it is somewhat of a catalyst for change

        Why?
        
        Shops and restaurants come and go either due to competition or changes to the local community
        
        People move on
        
        New people move in
        
        People age
        
        Change in people cause change to overall society

        Old shops that were once thriving, end up declining if they don't recognise how society is changing.
        
        The types of people on the street change, which can cause the street to change or vice versa

        How?
        
        Mark Hocking of City Road (Open University 2014a - Making lives) was once a very busy mechanic, as city road was well known for the car industry due to the surrounding car showrooms
        
        Due to the car showrooms closing up shop, Marks mechanics suddenly dropped in business,as with the decline in the car industry on City Road.
        
        So to keep Marks business afloat, he decided to sell of the mechanics and go into industrial design

        Stereotyping is where people define a group of individuals by a label, and assume characteristics of said individuals, even if they are not true
        
        Out-Groups
        
        Types of people you consider different from your identity and therefore do not often associate with, as there are no connections to draw on for familiarity
        
        In-Groups
        
        Types of people you can personally associate with due to a sense of familiarity in identity
        
        You will often recognise the faces of those you consider an in-group much better than you will of those of an out-group
        
        This may be due to the fact that people will not pay attention to those from an out-group in the same way they would to those from an in-group (Connecting lives - Open university 2014a)
        
        Can lead to prejudice and discrimination towards negatively valued labels and out-groups

        A Person's identity is often given to them by those around them and is not always chosen

        In connecting lives (open university 2014a) Stephen becomes disabled after an accident, making it hard to get around without a wheelchair.
        
        Initially, Stephen denied the use of a wheelchair, as he says they're for the elderly and disabled, and does not associate himself with either identities.
        
        because of this, Stephen feels deeply disconnected with society, as his initial connections were disrupted by this change to his sense of self
        
        After Stephen had experienced the constraints that society imposed on the disabled, decided to accept his identity, and move forward as a disability activist to fight for a better future for the disabled.
