Purpose
Compression is used to reduce the size of a file.
Types
Lossy
Used to compress a file but the file will lose some details.
If too much information is lost, it can result in digital artefacts (mistakes which you can see) occurring.
Lossless
Used to compress a file without losing any details.
.zip and .svg use this type of compression.
