My Teacher Values
Keep Students Safe
-
At the beginning of the year we spend time being educated on ways we can keep student safe in our rooms. Fire drills, active shooter, etc.
We spend time going over safety procedures in the science classroom and students discuss and act out how to be safe in the science classroom.
We practice creating a classroom community throughout the trimester, this is to build a safe environment. We do classroom community building activities, I put groups together when doing labs so people work with multiple others in the room, and just get to know my students so they feel safe in my room.
I will be sure to listen to my students and be supportive, but also be sure to use the counselors and administration to always keep an open line of communication to keep students safe.

Be Fair and Respectful
-open-minded, treating others well, respect. These are some of my classroom expectations that I have posted in my room and talk about.
I spend lots of time in the beginning of the trimester getting to know my students names, if they have individual education plans, 504s, if they are ELL, if they have a medical condition, and what their background is.
-
Be culturally sensitive to students and their families, some ways I do this is by getting to know my students, talking about culture, and treating students how they deserve to be treated. Another thing that I do is read about how different cultures greet each other or interact prior to conferences when I am meeting families.
