The plan was to convert Elizabeth into a catholic. The duke of Norfolk would marry Mary QoS. Mary QoS would replace Elizabeth on the throne. she would be the new Queen.
The Earl of Westmorland and the Earl of northumberland were involved. Spanish army weren't to support the rebellion
6,000 men were involved. they preformed mass at durham cathedral.
spanish support never arrived.
Elizabeth quickly defeated the rebels in a month
Elizabeth executed 7,000 people suspected of treason.
The Throckmorton Plot
third plot- occured in 1583
involved the duke of guise( a french)
Philip II would financially support the plot.
plan was to free Mary QoS and replace Elizabeth with her.

The Babington Plot
final plot- occured in 1586
involved letters to and from Mary QoS and Anthony Babington
relied on a foreign army led by the duke of guise to invade England.
Mary QoS was executed in 1587, as was Babington.
Sir Francis Walsingham discovered the letters and these incriminated Mary QoS.
