Plate Margins and the structure of the Earth - Coggle Diagram
Plate Margins and the structure of the Earth
Convection currents
Movement of magma in the mantle, this is caused by heat in the earths core.
Different plate movement
Pulling apart from each other.
Subducting under another plate margin.
sliding side by side
Constructive Plate margin
There is a constructive plate boundary in Iceland.
Ther magma rises to fill the space - No gap in Earths crust.
Atlantic ocean
Sea floor spreads
Destructive plate margins
Continental and Oceanic plates
Pushes together and one plate margin subducts under another plate.
Oceanic plate is more dense, therefore is subducts underneath the continental plate.
It causes friction, pressure, this all will cause shock waves that lead to an earthquake.
Japan 2011.
The Earth's mantle is about 1500 degrees celsius
The Subducting plate goes underneath the other plate margin and falls into the mantle. Melting and creates a volcano.

Mt St Helens
