B5 Animal nutrition
A balanced diet consists of all of the food groups in the correct proportions. The necessary food groups are:
Carbohydrates

Sources: bread, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes
Proteins

Sources: meat, fish, eggs, pulses, nuts
Lipids

Sources: butter, oil, nuts

Minerals

Sources: fruits and vegetables, meats and dairy products
Dietary fibre

Sources: vegetables, whole grains
Water

Sources: water, juice, milk, fruits and vegetables

Malnutrition
They include:
Coronary heart disease

Effect : fat deposits build up in arteries supplying the heart, reducing flow of blood to the heart muscle cells which do not work propely due to the lack of oxygen, it can lead to heart attacks and death
Constipation

Effect: food lacks bulk for muscles to push it through the alimentary canal and so risk of diseases such as bowel cancer are increased
Obesity
-
Effects: extra energy stored as fat, weight increases and contributes to development of many diseases such as heart disease and diabetes
Starvation
-
Effect: body starts to break down energy stores, first fat and then the muscle tissue, leading to severe weight loss and eventually damage the heart and immune system, increasing the risk of many diseses
