During a disaster, more patients may come into a hospital. Sometimes, there may be too many patients for a hospital and a Medical Surge can occur. Using Triage, we can help to figure out which patients are more important and urgent to treat first, and have less important injured patients be quickly looked over. This way, we can increase a hospital’s surge capacity for more patients. The patients who are ranked by triage in Semi-Urgent or Non-urgent, can have a quick checkup and leave the hospital in order to have more beds and doctors available for patients that are ranked Emergent or Urgent by Triage. That way, the capacity of the hospital can be normal again, and the people who need assistance right away are being given their treatment and care, while others are checked and sent home so more space is open for more urgent patients.
