Kingdoms of living things!
Animals
Examples:
Reptiles
Birds
Jellyfish
Fish
Amphibian
Molluscs, etc.
:
Characterisitcs: All animals are eukaryotic, multicellular organisms, and most animals have complex tissue structure with differentiated and specialized tissue. Animals are heterotrophs; they must consume living or dead organisms since they cannot synthesize their own food and can be carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, or parasites.
Plants
Examples:
Plants that do not produce seeds like moss and plants that do produce seeds like conifers and flowering plants.
Characteristics:
Plants cells have a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.
Plants perform photosynthesis, the process by which plants capture the energy of sunlight and use carbon dioxide from the air to make their own food.
Prokaryotes
Examples: Amoeba Paramecium
Characteristics: No nucleus
Fungi
Examples:
Moulds
Mushrooms
Yeast
Characteristics:
They may be unicellular or filamentous.
They reproduce by means of spores.
Fungi exhibit the phenomenon of alternation of generation.
Fungi lack chlorophyll and hence cannot perform photosynthesis.
Protoctista
Examples:
Amoeba Paramecium
Characteristics:
They are eukaryotic, which means they have a nucleus.
Most have mitochondria.
They can be parasites.
They all prefer aquatic or moist environments.
