CEFR Curriculum - By the end of Year 6, students should achieve at least A2 Mid level.
Literature review / concepts
Speaking is the ability to speak fluently and presupposes not only knowledge of language features, but also the ability to process information and language on the spot (Harmer, 2007)
To be fluent in English, the students should be speaking the language and it is depends on the number of hours the student spent on speaking it (Carroll, 2017)
The ability to speak a language is synonymous with knowing that language since speech is the most basic means of communication. (Celce-Marcia, 2001: p.103)
Speaking is the act or skill of giving a speech at a public event (Cambridge Dictionary)
Brown G. & Yule G. (1983) discuss that it is important that teachers should focus on having students practice in producing speeches such as public talks, public announcements, along with short turns.
Implication
Promote the role of the teacher as stimulator in developing speaking skills
promote more efficient & fun ways to develop speaking skills among students
Discussion
Speaking should happen more inside the classroom as students will not use the language outside of the classroom
identify ways to overcome the language barrier
teachers need to upgrade themselves and be aware of their role in teaching speaking
Conclusion
Teachers are aware of their role in developing speaking skills
Speaking can help improve other language skills.
Students build their self-esteem in speaking skill.
