ECUADOR'S COMERCIAL ACTIVITY

TRADE IN THE ECONOMY
All the goods or articles that the national
economy can produce, in factories and companies, agricultural and livestock units, require trade and, therefore, be sold in the market, where there is supply and demand for those products.
According to the last census of the year 2010, the commercial activities absorbed 800 thousand people, who constitute 17% of the active and working population of the country (that is the economically active population).
The commercial activity is very important because it is complementary to the production.
OWN BUSINESS
Producers are also affected because large trading companies impose production standards on their suppliers and change the characteristics of traditionally consumed products.
Most people engaged in business in more than 10 employees are located in retail trade.
Then, 39% of the total of employees of the commerce sector belongs to the wholesale trade, that is, to the sale of large quantities of merchandise.
The farmers whose plots do not allow them to live with their production they come from the countryside to the city and are located in the small commerce of streets and squares.
CONCENTRATION OF TRADE
In wholesale trade, the two most important activities are the sale of household goods and food, beverages and tobacco.
Trade is concentrated, above all, in the provinces of Pichincha and Guayas, because there are the largest economic activity and the largest cities in Ecuador: Quito and Guayaquil.
The participation of women is more important in trade than in other sectors such as manufacturing or industry, where there are more men employed.
EXPANSION OF SUPERMARKETS
This is a phenomenon that has occurred with great intensity throughout Latin America, where it is common to see the influence of large transnational firms from European countries that operate in large countries.
These large commercial companies have organized smaller chains and have even reached the area of the neighborhood.
FOREIGN TRADE
The foreign trade of bananas, shrimps, cocoa, flowers and tropical fruits is remarkable.
Export trade to the external market has been fundamental for the development of the national economy.
Countries that are suppliers of consumer goods, lubricants and fuels, raw material for the national industry and machinery.
Progressively, the country is diversifying its exports to other regions and countries of the world, especially the neighboring and Latin American countries.
