extinct volcano: It has not erupted in the last 1,000 years

shield volcanoes: Shield volcanoes are almost always the result of fluid lava flows.
Because highly fluid lava erupts from these volcanoes, the lava travels further.
cinder cone volcanoes: A steep conical hill made of various loose fragments that were blown violently into the air.

composite volcanoes: They are made of alternating layers of various material.
They can rise to heights of more than 2,400
metres above their bases.

effusive:
Effusive eruptions occur when hot (1200oC), runny basalt magma reaches the surface.
