Question: How were the sepoys, who were recruited by British East India Company (EIC) to be part of the British army, dressed during the 1800s in Singapore?
Answer: This can be seen in the photo in the top left corner of Source B, which shows a group of Indian sepoys pushing or pulling a cart wagon-like object along the streets of Singapore while wearing their rather shabby army uniforms. All of them looked very exhausted and worn-out in the photograph. The uniform of the British army in the past was also very uncomfortable and tight. Thus, I can infer that the Indian sepoys faced a lot of difficulties in the 1800s while doing their roles in helping to maintain law and order in Singapore, defending the island, training with the army and helping to clear land for settlements, and building batteries for defense mainly because of the old uniform of the British army which included the long-sleeved shirt, long pants, boots and turbans for Indian sepoys or helmets for a typical British soldier
