Early Detection
Observe and track progress/assessments
Compare notes between homeroom and subject teachers to assess if you are noticing the same behaviour and reaching the same conclusions.
Increase attention and allow time for in class feedback after lessons
Check students previous academic record if it's available to you
Short verbal and written assessments to check progressive and compare to others
Intervention
Create a record and keep track to assist the student/s
Contact parents and discuss the student. Get information from parents to design a IEP for the student/s
Move the student to be more accessible to you and other students who can assist. Peer learning can help
Implement IEP and continue to monitor the student. Ensure at that both homeroom and subject teachers are aware of the IEP and implementing it as required.
Ensure the student has the necessary materials/environment to assist them and not hinder their progress
I need to adjust my time to include one on one time for the student as often as possible. Reteaching what the student may be struggling with.
Differentiated Strategies
Use audio and visual methods of teaching. Utilise things like video, podcasts, infographics etc to ensure all learning styles are covered.
Provide different types of exercises that have the same outcomes.
What needs to be differentiated? The content, the process or environmental changes need to be made.
Identify how the student/s learn, which learning style suits them best
For assignments give the student/s options when it comes to the topic and how the assignment can be delivered.
Group students together - these can be students with varied abilities or high achievers that can assist.
Have a variety of materials at your disposal to assist learning. Access to the web, different software, white/black boards and markers etc.

Unsuccessful Intervention
Inform parents and refer to a Psychologist and/or Occupational Therapist for all necessary testing
Discuss results and assess if our school has the facilities and staff to ensure the student can be helped.
Meet with Learning Support Team to discuss lack of progress
If our school is not suitable, assist with referral to school and help where I can with application
