Plate Tectonics
Continental drift
- There was only one continent called Panguea.
- There were two continents called Laurasia and
Gondwanaland
- Gondwanaland
and Laurasia was divided into two continents
- Continent were finally formed as we know it today
Types
Convergent
This occurs when plates move towards each other and collide. Another form of convergent boundary is a collision where two continental plates meet head-on.
-
Transform
Along the third type of plate boundary, two plates move laterally and pass each other along giant fractures in Earth's crust.
Wegener's theory
-
The shape of the east coast of South America fits the west
coast of Africa, like pieces in a jigsaw puzzle
-
Big Bang theory
It was a massive allowed explosion of matter and energy, it was a very rare explosion of energy
Plate tectonics says that Earth's outer layer is made up of large, moving pieces called plates.
